The smallest studio suites (also known as micro-apartments, nano flats, capsule homes or shoebox homes) are abodes smaller than 200 ft2 in usable area. Some are as small as 123 ft2 (a 20 ft shipping container is 160 ft2, while a standard Hong Kong car parking space is 135 ft2) - the Housing Authority stipulates a minimum living space of 75 ft2 per person.
In Sham Shui Po, container homes will serve as temporary housing for some 100 families, for up to 2 years. Blocks of the prefabricated modular housing units, based on shipping containers, will be built to help provide homes for needy families.
The 'OPod' is a 100 ft2 (9.3 m2) tube home formed from 2 lengths of concrete drainpipe (2.5 m / 8.2 ft diameter) envisioned as temporary accommodation for a family. It is equipped with a bathroom, kitchen, shelving and a couch that converts into a bed.

Skyscraper nicknames

Hong Kong has over 7,840 high-rise buildings with 316 buildings over 150 m (492 ft). The skyline of Hong Kong Island is famed for the surrounding mountains, Victoria Harbour and the rows of skyscrapers along the shore. Each evening, buildings on the shores of Victoria Harbour participate in 'A Symphony of Lights'.

Tung Chung

Tung Chung (Eastern Stream) situated on the NW coast of Lantau Island, close to the airport. It is one of the latest generations of new town and was a rural village and a major defence stronghold against pirates, during the Ming and Qing dynasties (see Tung Chung Fort).

Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macau Bridge

With a 2018 completion date, the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macau Bridge (HKZMB) links Hong Kong, Zhuhai and Macau. It consists of a main bridge, boundary crossing facilities and link roads. The bridge has a total length of 50 km, a single span of 29.6 km and a 6.7 km underwater tunnel to allow ships to pass.

Buses will run between the border checkpoints of the 3 cities, departing every 5 minutes at peak hours, every 10 to 15 minutes at non-peak hours and every 15 to 30 minutes at night.The HK$80 bus fare to Zhuhai is lower than the HK$220 ferry fare.

Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge

Rail network

The Beijing–Guangzhou–Shenzhen–Hong Kong High-Speed Railway is a high-speed rail passenger service. It will connect Beijing and Shenzhen, linking to the West Kowloon Station in Hong Kong. The 36 km (22 ml) cross-border Shenzhen–Hong Kong section will open in the third quarter of 2018.

Lantau blueprint

Marine hotspots

Hong Kong is best known as a bustling harbour, financial centre and a shoppers' paradise. It has a dense population of 7 million which impacts on its natural environment. Yet, away from the skyscrapers and the daily hustle and bustle, Hong Kong has a record of 5,943 marine species.
